WEAR Meeting Summary from March 28th
Waveland Partners were invited to the meeting but declined to attend. They have been meeting privately with Alderman O’Connor. Alderman O’Connor has not been open about the nature of these meetings.
Alderman O’Connor suggested WEAR develop a Plan B and raise money. The alderman did not publicly choose a position on the EMC park issue. WEAR indicated they are developing an official position on the EMC issue.
Waveland Partners has been canvassing the neighborhood in an attempt to drum-up support for their development. They are seeking TIF money and a zoning change. The property is currently zoned for single family homes.
Andrew Strand of FoWEP presented Friends of West Edgewater Park’s position.
Member’s of WANT attended the meeting and were supportive of efforts to turn EMC into a park.
A smaller “anti-park” group of residents were present. Their concerns are noise, homeless people, crime and lack of tax revenue.
Community members voiced concerns that the owner’s of the EMC property have vagrantly disregarded the basic up-keep of their property.
The meeting concluded with an open forum so that residents could ask questions or make comments. No decisions were made as the meeting’s purpose was to keep the community involved and get community input.
More meetings will be scheduled as the EMC issue develops.
