Following numerous inquiries from Friends of West Edgewater Park (FoWEP) today, Rahm Emanuel’s mayoral campaign emailed the statement below regarding the redevelopment of the Edgewater Medical Center as a neighborhood park . At this time neither the Chico or the del Valle campaigns had been reached for comment. The strong positions of both of those campaigns on the subject of the final disposition of the EMC site were posted on this website earlier today.
To summarize, Mr. Chico, if elected, “would work with private partners and state and Federal governments and use the EMC TIF fund as seed money to make the new Edgwater Park a reality” and Mr. del Valle, if elected, would, referring to FoWEP’s efforts to redevelop the EMC site as a neighborhood park, “provide the support they need to carry out their plan.”
The del Valle campaign can be reached at 312-733-8083. The Chico campaign can be reached at 312-291-9800. The Emanuel campaign can be reached at (312) 894-3450. We urge you to contact the candidates in order to inform them of your support for the redevelopment of the EMC site as a neighborhood park.”
Emanuel Campaign Statement Emailed to FoWEP Thursday Afternoon
Rahm supports neighborhood efforts to revitalize the Edgewater Medical Center and would be responsive to local decisions about how to redevelop that land — whether into a park or a mixed-use development that respects the fabric of the community. If the project met the requirements to receive Tax Increment Financing, Rahm would work with the local community and alderman to secure funds.
