Thank you for your efforts on this very important project. The information Jim shared at the meeting last week was very helpful. In response to the meeting, the Congresswoman has instructed me to look into all the potential funding opportunities available at the federal level for the demolition, remediation and construction of the park site. I will follow up with the group after compiling a list of all the federal funding opportunities.
Additionally, I will forward your message below to the Congresswoman. I have copied Leslie Combs, the Congresswoman’s District Director, on this email as well. Leslie and I will be working together on this project, so please copy her on all future correspondences.
Again, thank you for all your hard work on this project and please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any additional questions.

Subject: Edgewater Medical Center – West Edgewater Park – http://www.westedgewaterpark.org
I just wanted to follow up with you concerning our effort to create a park at the site of the currently defunct Edgewater Medical Center . Jim Donovan spoke for our cause the other day at the meeting with Alderman O’Connor, but I just want to reinforce how committed we are and how important this issue is to your constituency in the WEAR, WANT, ENTA, EARC areas. We have letters of support from the EESP, ENN, and BCO as well. If you or any of your legislative or political leaders are interested in learning more about this topic I am willing to meet with you at any time.
I know that you are being challenged by a tea party candidate who will not stand for the values of our district. In my view the only way to defend against such attacks is to take the offensive. As Democrats we have to draw distinctions between positive government action that positively impacts our communities, and the simplistic, negative, destructive rhetoric espoused by Republicans and our opponents. His efforts will roll back the clock to something worse than George W. Bush is evident.
Attached is a power point presentation that describes the area and the walking distances around this site. I think there is more to the color commentary than this power point convey, but let me just say that our neighborhood of 10,000+ people does not have walking access to a real park. Our group believes that the plan to turn the Edgewater Medical Center into a park is the perfect local example of a positive public infrastructure effort that will make a difference for our community forever. The cost of such a park will be immaterial when compared to the life expectancy of a park which is forever.
We look forward to a strong public statement from you in supporting the conversion of the Edgewater Medical Center being converted into a park.
